Philmont Public Library After months of planning, the Library Board of Trustees is moving forward to publicly present plans for an addition to the back of the library to be used for cultural events, including music, author presentations, general programming, study and research. The addition will also include an area for local history.

Interim Director Karen Garafalo is looking forward to the addition to the library, which opened in 2003. "This will be a great center-piece for the Village of Philmont. We have a great library, but there is not really space to provide programming and for people to sit down and enjoy everything the library has to offer. I am really excited about all the potential uses of this new space for our patrons and the community."

Current plans include access to the upstairs, which is currently being used for storage, and a separate entrance for the addition, which will be available for public use even when the library is closed. A formal presentation will be made in the fall where there will be a period of public comment, followed by a formal presentation of the plans and a capital campaign to raise funds.

"Two recent memorial funds have given us a first step and applying for grants is in the future, but we will be looking to our friends and patrons to help with the funding of the addition", said Garafalo.
