Angela Potts, daughter of Mary and Terry Potts of Philmont, is serving in the Peace Corps in Malawi, Southern Africa. Angela graduated from Taconic Hills, received her Bachelor's degree from St. Michael's University in Vermont and received her Master's from American University in Washington, DC. While living in local area, she worked at the Philmont Public Library and taught English at Questar in Greenport.
Angela left for Africa last September and will remain in Malawi until December 2009. While in Malawi, Angela will be teaching students of all ages, starting with children and eventually teaching teachers.
Angela gets to use a computer about once a month when she travels to Lilongwe to meet with other Peace Corps volunteers from the area to get her mail and shop for necessities. In addition to her entries, she has loaded several pictures of the area and some of the activities in which she has been involved. Angela has also provided many different methods of contacting her.
Karen Garafalo, Interim Philmont Library Director recently sent Angela and her students a box of books. The books ranged from picture books to classics.
You can find out more about Angela's adventures at her blog malawiadventurez.blogspot.com.
