During National Library Week (April 13-April 19), the Philmont Public Library will be accepting “food for fines".
Here is how it works: bring in an unexpired, unopened food item or paper product, and wipe a fine from your account.
Example: You owe $5 for bringing back the DVD Cars really late. You bring in a jar of peanut butter and you now owe nothing to the library. If you have more than one fine, bring in one item for each fine. All items will be donated to the Mellenville-Philmont Food Pantry.
This program only applies to overdue fines; we cannot forgive replacement costs for lost or damaged books or fees for library services (photocopies, faxes or printing). Celebrate National Library Week, lend a helping hand to a local family, and bring your library account to zero all at the same time.
The library hours are:
Monday & Wednesday: 1-5 and 6-8PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00AM - 1:30PM
Saturday: 10:00AM - 1:30PM
The food pantry is located in the basement area of Town of Claverack Offices at 91 Church Street. It is open for qualified people to pick up supplies on Tuesday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
"I went to the library and asked the librarian,
"Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose"
