Did you ever wonder how things around you just happen to get beautiful? Well, a lot of that beauty is the result of the hard work and year-round volunteer efforts of the Claverack Garden Club.
The Claverack Garden Club has the objective to stimulate the knowledge and love of plants and gardening, to aid in the protection of the beauty and natural resources of the community, and to encourage civic planting in our environs.
On Saturday, May 30th the club, jointly with the Greenport Garden Club, will present a Standard Flower Show. The show, titled CELEBRATING HUDSON; THE DUTCH CONNECTION is following the theme for the quadricentennial celebration of Henry Hudson sailing up the Hudson River. Design “All Along the River” classes include arrangement categories of “Dutch Treat”, Indian Trails, Fulton’s Folly, Halve Moon, and Celebration. Horticulture “On the Banks of the Hudson” will have plant specimens raised by club members. The public is invited to come and see this free exhibit between 10 AM to 3 PM at the Greenport Town Hall at 600 Town Hall Drive.
Projects for the year include planting a native shrub to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day at the Claverack Village Park, planting annuals in Claverack Village Park and the Town of Claverack Park, assisting Pine Haven residents to make seasonal arrangements for their dining room, participating in an exhibit at the Columbia County Fair as well as contributing to The National Garden Clubs World Gardening Program.
All meetings and activities are open to the public and the club is always looking for new members. Contact President Seltzer (822-1221) or Publicity Chairman Marge Chippari (697-7638) for more information.
