The Library Journal published their library rankings and the Philmont Public Library was ranked as a 4-star library for the second time in a row. The Journal rankings are based on library circulation, visits, attendance at programs and use of public computers. The Library Journal is in its 133rd year of publication, and is the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field.
This latest round of the LJ Index only gives five, four, or three stars to the top 258 libraries nationwide, and Philmont is proud to make the list.
"We are honored to be on the Library Journal 4-Star Library list, two times in a row", said Interim Library Director Karen Garafalo. "We work very hard to make our library a special place to visit, and it is wonderful to be acknowledged for our achievements".
And the library isn't resting on its' laurels. The Village Board, Village DPW, Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library and staff and community members have worked diligently to create a 22' x 36' addition with a new entryway to provide more space for library and community programs, public internet access, meetings, art shows, movies, and performances. The building is framed and nearing completion.
The library is open Monday and Wednesday from 12 to 5 and 6 to 8. Thursday from 10 to 2, Friday from 12 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 2.
