The Philmont Library Cultural Center is pleased to announce a show by local artist Marlene Vidibor, who shares her fiber and collage works. Marlene learned to knit and crochet at her grandmotherís knee, watched her mother embroider by hand and watched her father create armatures for his inventions out of wire. She learned early on how household repairs could be made using thread, string, and wire. She gained inspiration from a piano teacher who sewed, and an aunt who was a dress designer and poet.
Childhood summers were spent on a farm where animal life and the colors and patterns flora and fauna in woods and fields all came together. Vidibor explores landscape imagery through free form knitted intarsia patterns embellished and outlined in crochet and adorned with old jewelry and beads. Her large wall hangings and sweaters are crocheted and knitted with intricate embellishment in crochet, found objects and beading.
Vidibor has exhibited at the Hunterdon Museum of Art in Clinton, NJ, as well as both Columbia County Council on the Arts and Greene County Council on the Arts, and has been included in the online artistís registry of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (CLARA) for many years. She was won numerous awards for her fiber work and was awarded first prize in Mixed Media at the 2006 Columbia County Council on the Arts (CCCA) Juried Show.
