Exhibition The Philmont Library Cultural Center is pleased to announce a show by artist K. Velis Turan, exhibiting her mixed media fiber artworks.

K. Velis Turan depicts traditional subjects - the local landscape, still life and portraits, but in a non-traditional way. In a blend of materials and techniques, she merges fabric, paint, printmaking, quilting and more to make these unique pieces.

K. Velis Turan has worked and studied with well known art quilters and mixed media artists including Ruth McDowell, Kerr Grawboski and Hollie Heller. Her use of surface design techniques adds layers of color, depth and textures to her work not possible in a single medium. She employs surface design and mixed media techniques such as screen printing, painting, discharging, photo transfer, stitching and embellishing.

The "thread stokes" or quilting stitches (stitching into three or more layers of fabric) that she works into the pieces further complete the transformation of the cloth into a unified work of art.

K. Velis Turan (b. Washington, D.C.) is a mixed media fiber artist living and working in the Hudson Valley region of New York. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The Philmont Library hours are Monday 12-5, and 6-8, Tuesday closed, Wednesday 12-5 and 6-8, Thursday 10-2, Friday 12-5, Saturday 10-2. The Philmont Library is located at 101 Main Street (Route 217) in Philmont, NY.
