Starting April 30, 2024 | Recycling Will Be Picked Up Every Week on Tuesday along with Garbage

In the interest of efficiency and cost savings, the Village of Philmont is changing its recycling schedule.

Beginning in May 2024, recyclables will no longer be collected separately on Fridays.  Starting in May 2024, All Garbage and Recycling will be picked up on Tuesdays. Have your garbage and recycling out by 7am on Tuesday. There may be two runs on Tuesday—first for garbage, then for recycling—so don’t be alarmed if your recycling isn’t picked up at the same time as your garbage.

After much research, we have found a more economical location to dispose of solid waste & recyclables.  This new schedule will be a cost saving to tax payers, enabling the Village to avoid an increase in property taxes.

Please remember that recyclables must be in an open container. Large containers, such as kitchen trash containers, are permissible. These containers should have holes drilled in the bottom to eliminate rain collection. No recyclables in plastic or paper bags will be picked up.

Thank you for your patience as we work to make services more efficient for the Village. This schedule is subject to adjustments as we continue to find more cost-effective ways to deal with the ever-increasing costs of solid waste and recycling.

All garbage bags must continue to have a Green Garbage Sticker visibly attached.

The village follows the county guidelines which are available at https://solidwaste.columbiacountyny.com/recycling. The use of Columbia County Solid Waste for disposal will be an adjustment from our prior vendor, as their protocols are much stricter.
